The Revised Payment Services Directive (PSD2), or simply "Open Banking", is an EU directive to regulate payment services and payment service providers throughout the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA). It includes the use of APIs that are made publicly available by financial institutions, like banks, enabling third-party developers to build applications and services.
Simply put, bank account data is owned by the bank account holders themselves, and not the banks. As such, it is the right of the account holders to share their data with third parties when it benefits their own interest.
